The SAP team had announced of its intention to join the Extreme Sailing Series event. The first of the races will be taking place in Muscat in three weeks time and SAP Extreme Sailing Team has confirmed that it will be taking part in the Muscat event.
This will be the 6th time that the SAP team will be taking part in this popular Stadium racing Series. The big difference now is that the crew line-up has been revamped and new members will be seen in the SAP team. The Danes are the second team to announce their participation in the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series event. The first to announce their participation was the Swiss team Alinghi.
The SAP team finished in the 4th position in the 2016 Extreme Sailing Series and they are looking for a better outing in the 2017 series, with much off the off-season spent practicing in smaller yachts with Bareboat charter in Croatia.
Rasmus Kostner, the co-skipper of the Danish-flagged team, said that they are looking to get back to the podium in 2017 and give a tough fight to some of the top teams. Their results of 2016 were a mixed bag and they did not show consistency over the different racing conditions.
The co-skippers of SAP team Kostner and Jes Gram-Hansen will be holding on to their positions this year too, and the new entrant to the crew will be New Zealander Adam Minoprio, a World Match Racing Champion. He will at times be taking over the skipper post from Gram-Hansen during the racing series.
Gram-Hansen said that he will not be on board for a few of the races. This will be the first time that he will be sitting out in a few races of the Extreme Sailing Series since making a debut at the event in 2012. He said that he will be in the coach boat when Adam will be co-skippering with Kostner.
